Have you got a hilly cycle training camp coming up or a triathlon?

Have you got a hilly cycle training camp coming up or a triathlon like the Mallorca 70.3 Half Ironman triathlon with long climbs in the next 2-3 months?

Would you benefit from setting your bike up optimally will ensure you maximise the power and pedalling efficiency gains from opening up your hips, using your hamstrings better, and keeping your core engaged for improved climbing ability and technique!

The read our 5 Top tips for improving your hill climbing technique

1. Rpm controlled and hr / power levels on longer climbs – keep your heart rate and power at the upper aerobic end of your training spectrum on climbs over 30 minutes. If they are over 7% or where you need to sit at lower RPM levels under 80, then this is especially important!

2. Position changes – sit further behind the bottom bracket to generate more power and use your glutes more

3. Strengthen your obliques and lower abdominals for better hill climbing ability!

4. Hill reps – Find some similar grade hills to practice on, or simulate gradients on your turbo trainer or watt-bike

5. Ensure your Pedalling efficiency is more of an oval not peanut shape – use hamstrings more to maintain even torque all the way around the pedal stroke

Book a road bike fit to optimise your cycling and climbing position so you don’t waste energy from in-efficient pedalling technique and loss of power transfer!
